Food for thought

Here are some books that I love and have helped me and continue to help me in my pursuit of a happy life. :)

The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz. I read this book every few months. It helps to keep me in check. Synopsis of this book: it's about freeing yourself from others judgements and making your own decisions about who you are and what your personal value is. (Also check out The Mastery of Love, also by Don Miguel Ruiz, its a great relationship book.)

Another one that I just finished reading is The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman. I think this is a must for every couple, and really any single person. Synopsis: this book helps you identify the ways in which you need love expressed to you in order to feel truly loved. People are generally 1 or more of 5 different love languages. By understanding your partners "love language" you can better express your love in a way that they will feel and appreciate it the most. This can also apply to friends, children, family, anyone around you.

Does anyone have any other must reads?

  1. Did you know there is also a love languages book for children? You might find that one interesting...

  2. Yes I did Noelle. Thanks for sharing though. I think there are a few. I know there is one specifically for singles and also as you mentioned there is one for children. All the same concepts but different applications. Definately helpful!

  3. my dad loved the Four Agreements; i could never get into it. maybe i'll try again. i am a huge fan of Love Languages. totally agree with you on that one; so eye-opening. i had heard there is a "forgiveness languages", too, but i haven't heard anything else about it.

have you ever read Mutant Message Down Under? Weird, but fascinating.

  4. I was listening to a message from Mark Driscoll (Mars Hill, Seattle) on my computer the other morning when I was getting ready and he was talking about the Love Languages. I think I retract our prior conversation and I really think service is my number one. I still need to read the four agreements. You should do a shout out to all EA's and suggest they read it!
